Gov. Andrew Cuomo has recently endorsed drive-in movies as a safe form of summer entertainment, and Southampton Arts Center is excited to bring the tradition of yesteryear into the 21st century this Memorial Day weekend. Celebrate the unofficial kickoff of summer with a showing of Raiders of the Lost Ark on May 23 at Cooper’s Beach in Southampton at 8:30PM.
This special event is a beacon of sunshine amidst the weeks of anxiety and heartbreak felt throughout the East End community. Simone Levinson, Southampton Arts Center Founding Co-Chair says, “After two months of isolation and separation we are delighted to host this drive-in movie and food drive as a nostalgic, feel-good event to enjoy with family and friends, as we safely re-emerge from this tumultuous time together.”
To ensure safe, contactless entry, attendees are required to sign up with advanced registration for the showing here. Moviegoers are also encouraged to bring nonperishable food items to the showing as a contribution to Heart of the Hamptons food pantry. The Cooper’s Beach parking lot (268 Meadow Lane) will open at 7:30 PM with the film beginning at sundown, approximately 8:45 PM. Admission is $50 per car. Attendees will be expected to stay in their cars and follow physical distancing guidelines. Cars should have no more people than available seat belts. The film’s audio will be accessed via the FM dial. southamptonartscenter.org
