This season, Ecotone, New York’s wellness developer, continues its mission to empower young apprentices by installing two more outdoor classroom structures in NYC Community Gardens. In partnership with the Boys’ Club of New York and NYC Parks’ GreenThumb project, these installations build on the success of 15 structures completed last year. Ecotone aims to construct over 100 additional educational spaces across the boroughs, providing hands-on training in urban agriculture, natural building and renewable energy.

Each structure is thoughtfully designed to maximize carpentry skills during fabrication and installation, building competence and confidence in apprentices. These innovative structures feature rainwater-harvesting systems to reduce stormwater runoff and teach water management principles. Adaptable for solar panel integration, Ecotone offers power solutions for future garden workshops and classes while giving apprentices valuable experience with off-grid solar installations right in NYC’s urban landscape.

This winter, they aim to pilot solar panel arrays, offering apprentices firsthand training in green technology and contributing to a cleaner, brighter future for New York City. These projects are not just about construction; they’re also about fostering the next generation of skilled tradespeople and green workforce leaders.
