PURIST: What does Mersea help children with?
MOLLY KNAUER: Mersea takes hydration one step further. We offer electrolytes along with important trace minerals from sea moss and kelp in a delicious, convenient way to boost their hydration in a simple squeeze they actually enjoy!
As moms, why was creating a mineral-rich hydration packet not just important to you, but necessary?
CAROLINE KELLEY ROSEN: It became necessary because we couldn’t find anything like it on the market. Most children’s sports drinks and hydration powders are made with artificial dyes, heavy processed flavorings, and added sugars or sweeteners. We wanted to create a cleaner alternative—an everyday, shelf-stable hydration packet made with thoughtfully sourced ingredients that parents feel good about giving, and kids genuinely love to sip.
Molly, as a registered dietitian, what are the most common nutritional concerns parents bring to you?
MK: One common nutritional concern from parents is picky eating, but true nutrient deficiencies are a lot less common than parents fear if a child is growing well. However, research shows that nutrients like potassium, magnesium, fiber and vitamin D are frequently underconsumed by children in the U.S. Many kids also miss out on trace minerals found in seafood, leafy greens and whole grains. Our goal with Mersea was to create a mineral-rich hydration option in a format kids enjoy, supporting healthy hydration while giving parents confidence.

I love the name—Mersea is full of sea minerals! Tell us how you created the formulation.
MK: We wanted to take hydration one step further by creating a product that also included thoughtfully selected ingredients for growing bodies.
After nearly two years of research, we built Mersea around bioavailable electrolytes combined with naturally occurring trace minerals from organic Irish sea moss and organic kelp. Every ingredient had to earn its place, with no artificial dyes or unnecessary added sugars.
Sea moss is trending as a plant-based ingredient for skin and hair, but what are its internal benefits?
CKR: Sea moss is naturally rich in trace minerals, which are nutrients the body needs in very small amounts but that play important roles in normal bodily functions. It contains naturally occurring minerals such as iodine, potassium, magnesium and calcium.
What are some healthy habits you both practice?
CKR: We’ve learned that movement doesn’t have to be complicated—it just has to be enjoyable. As busy moms, instead of sitting in a conference room, Molly and I often take our calls while walking through the park with our kids. It keeps us moving, gets us outside and lets the kids play while we work.
MK: We also love taking dance classes or tennis lessons together. Those moments help us reset, clear our minds and recharge so we can show up as the best versions of ourselves—for our families and for our business. wearemersea.com
