Academy Screenings brings the buzziest awards season contenders to Aspen’s mountain community, from big-name features to fresh independent voices. What began 30 years ago as an industry-focused event has become a winter tradition showcasing the year’s highest-quality cinematic achievements.
This year’s program consists of some of the most high-profile and highly acclaimed films that will be theatrically released around the end of the year, including four titles that will represent their home countries in the Academy Awards’ Best International Language Feature category.
Every film in the 2023 lineup packs a punch in terms of what it delivers—audience members will be treated to some of the year’s most outstanding performances, not to mention stellar directing, writing, editing and more inimitable achievement.
From laugh-out-loud comedy to dramatic fiction, Aspen Film aims to keep it fresh—our 31st Academy Screenings program offers something for everyone.
To kick things off, festivalgoers won’t want to miss the much-anticipated Opening Night film, The Color Purple, directed by Blitz Bazawule, followed by a special in-person Q+A with award winners composer Kris Bowers and choreographer Fatima Robinson.
