Reiki is a soft yet mighty current, a healing pulse that flows from the heart of the universe, weaving through every living thing. It is the thread that binds body, mind and spirit, a reminder that everything we are, everything we experience, is made of energy. It is within this flow—this sacred force—that Reiki moves, healing the places where our energy has become tangled, stagnant or blocked. When the flow of life becomes disrupted, Reiki steps in, gently restoring balance, reviving harmony and inviting us back into alignment with the universe. It’s not just a practice; it’s a return to the pulse of creation itself.

At its core, Reiki is a practice of connection. Connection to the flow of energy that is ever-present, always available. It is not something to be acquired or attained, but something we already carry within us. Whether you’ve received an attunement or not, whether you’ve had years of practice or are just beginning to explore, the energy is always there. Attunements are a way to refine and activate the connection we already hold within. But more than just a rite of passage, the attunement connects us to a lineage—an unbroken chain of teachers and healers who have passed down the sacred wisdom, each one adding their own energy to the stream. Working with a mentor who holds this lineage is like being given a map to the unseen, helping us understand the nuances of energy work.

In my own journey, I’ve had the honor of guiding others through the practice, witnessing their growth from doubt to confidence, from uncertainty to deep knowing. I remember one of my first Reiki sessions, held in a quiet yoga studio tucked away in the hills of upstate New York. I had just received my second-degree attunement and, though I had learned much, I still felt like a novice. A client arrived, someone I had never met before, having found my flyer hanging in the hallway. My nerves were high—what if I wasn’t ready? What if I failed to connect with her? I stumbled through the session, placing my hands on her energy centers and trying to sense imbalances as best I could. But as I did, something unexpected happened.

A flash of imagery, clear as day—oranges. I blinked. Was this a memory from my childhood in South Florida? The colors, the scent, the heat of the tropics flooded my mind. But this was a session, not a daydream. Was I just imagining it? Did it have any meaning? Should I share it?

I pushed through the session, unsure of the significance, and when it ended, I hesitantly spoke my truth. “I know this sounds strange,” I said, “but I keep seeing oranges. I’m not sure why, but I felt compelled to tell you.”

Her face paled, and her voice wavered. “You’re kidding me… That’s my code word for my father, who passed. I asked him to send me a sign today.”

Chills ran down my spine as the veil between worlds seemed to thin. In that moment, I knew I hadn’t just been performing a ritual—I had been a vessel. A messenger. I had allowed the energy to flow through me, and it had reached her. Despite my doubts, I had trusted what came through, and it offered her comfort in a way words alone could never do. That experience opened a door in me, one I could never close again.

Reiki revealed to me that healing is not merely about fixing what’s broken, but about opening ourselves to the unseen, the unspoken. It’s about connection—connection to the energy within, to the world around us, and to the divine guidance that is always there, even when we cannot see it. It’s about surrendering to the flow, trusting that we are merely conduits for a much greater force.

This understanding has shaped my work ever since. Through Reiki, I’ve been able to blend my clinical background in psychology with the more intuitive, “woo-woo” aspects of healing. With a degree in psychology and experience in clinical settings, I’ve long believed in the power of evidence-based, scientific practices. But Reiki has taught me that science and spirit are not opposing forces—they are two sides of the same coin. In fact, they are complementary. The mind, the body and the spirit are interconnected, and energy work can often reveal the missing link between what we feel and what we know.

Since awakening to my own intuitive gifts, I’ve been gifted with moments of medical mediumship—intuitive insights about physical conditions, emotional blockages and even spiritual guidance for clients. There have been times when I’ve felt drawn to specific areas of the body and intuitively sensed the source of a client’s pain or imbalance, long before they shared the details. These experiences have been both humbling and awe-inspiring, confirming that there is so much more at play than what we can perceive with our five senses. But what has been truly remarkable is my ability to also connect with loved ones who have passed—whether they are ancestors, friends or family members—offering messages of comfort, clarity and sometimes even closure. In these moments, I’ve felt the presence of those who’ve crossed over, their energy clear and strong, sharing wisdom and guidance with those still here.

I’ve learned that energy speaks to us in many ways, and if we listen, it will guide us to the root of our healing. Connecting with those who have transitioned offers another layer of healing, as messages from the other side can help us understand deeper truths, make peace with past traumas and bring us closer to our true selves. It’s a humbling reminder that the bonds of love transcend physical death, and that the wisdom of our ancestors continues to guide us, even when we can’t see them with our eyes. These experiences, while mysterious and sometimes unexpected, have shown me that Reiki and energy work are not just about the present moment; they are bridges between worlds, offering healing that spans time and space.

Reiki is not something we need to acquire, it is something we remember. It is the energy that has always been within us, waiting to be called upon. Whether through a formal attunement or through the quiet intention to heal, it is a gift that we all hold within our hearts. It is a doorway to a life of greater clarity, peace and purpose. And just as it was for me in that quiet studio, when we trust the flow of energy and surrender to its guidance, it has the power to transform our lives in ways we never imagined. ohenhealing.com
