Renowned biologic dentist, scientist, author and wellness pioneer Dr. Gerry Curatola began his research in oral care, and the development of Revitin, the world’s first prebiotic toothpaste, in 1998. Coincidentally, that was the year that the FDA mandated a poison warning on all toothpastes containing fluoride, after an alarming rise of fluoride fatalities in children for years prior. Curatola found this to be both horrifying and exasperating as a dentist. It was then that he had enough with the oral care of the nation being directed by detergent companies like Colgate and P&G. “Many of these companies know their products are harmful, filled with chemicals and junk science,” shares Curatola.
For the next 10 years, Curatola became a devout student of the emerging science of the oral microbiome. He was fascinated by the amazing regulatory functions of this natural ecology in the mouth to help teeth remineralize and gums stay healthy, while most dentists and the oral care industry remained focused on “killing it.” In 2006, he gave a generous gift to New York University’s College of Dentistry to name The Curatola Wing for Clinical Research to further translational research on the oral microbiome, and his research on his formulations earned him multiple United States and foreign patents.
All of this led to the development and introduction of Revitin Oral Care, a toothpaste that literally “feeds the oral biome.” Rich in vitamins C, D, E and K, and coenzyme Q-10, Revitin is made with organic, vegan ingredients, and is safe to swallow. Curatola calls Revitin “organic gardening for your mouth!” In fact, most of Revitin’s original ingredients came out of a health food store, but it took years of development to emerge as it is today. Throughout this time, Curatola was committed to support ongoing clinical research studies, most recently a randomized double-blind clinical trial with DNA analysis that confirmed Revitin’s ability to promote a healthy, balanced oral microbiome. According to Curatola, when your oral microbiome is healthy, your mouth feels clean “like you don’t even have to brush.”
Revitin’s newest addition is a unique “microbiome-friendly” mint flavor that contains a delicate balance of organic spearmint softened with organic vanilla for a refreshing taste and feel, while not containing the antimicrobial properties of most mint flavors. revitin.com; @drgerrycuratola
