At Saddle River Day School (SRDS), learning doesn’t stop when the bell rings. The independent pre-K-12 school in Saddle River, New Jersey, sits just 35 minutes from New York City, and its students are encouraged to follow their curiosity, make things and discover who they are along the way.
On the academic side, students can choose from more than 40 AP and post-AP college-level courses, along with signature programs like the Gateway Honors Diploma Program and the Columbia-SRDS Research Immersion Program. The new Dr. Kristen Walsh Hall of Science and Entrepreneurship, which opened this fall, adds more space to experiment, and business and entrepreneurship students get hands-on time with Bloomberg financial terminals.
Outside the classroom, students can choose from 22 varsity teams, an equestrian program, visual and performing arts taught by acclaimed artists, and clubs from robotics to TEDxYouth to debate.
Expert college counseling starts as early as eighth grade, with one-on-one counseling, workshops and college visits. Recent graduates have gone on to highly competitive colleges and universities such as Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Georgetown, Vanderbilt, and the University of Pennsylvania.

Families in New York City can learn more about SRDS for themselves at an open house on Thursday, November 5, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Columbia University’s Faculty House, 64 Morningside Drive. Enter at the Wien Gate, 411 West 116th Street. Transportation is available from Manhattan’s Upper West Side.
