Alicia Cook was ahead of the wellness game (and most of her peers) when she opened up the eco-concept salon, Revolve Hair, nine years ago at just 24 years old. Cook, originally from Westhampton, trained in London and NYC, and worked in Southampton and Sag Harbor for seven years before deciding to bring her skill set and passion for positive change into her own storefront. She strived to create a safe, zen-like community space for men, women and children of all ages, where they could unwind and walk out feeling good from the inside out. Almost a decade later, she has stayed true to her initial goal.
Aside from assembling an incredible team specializing in color, cutting and treatments, Cook keeps her locale stocked with sustainably made, zero-impact products from brands like Davines, a certified B Corporation serving up everything from Renewing Shampoo and Vegetarian Miracle Conditioner to a Nourishing Living Enzyme Infusion, all wrapped up in eco-packaging. Even the Tek hair brushes are made from olive wood and SFC (Sustainable Furnishing Council) wood, so everything coming into contact with your luscious locks is from a mindfully produced place. There is also a chemical-free skincare selection from Simply Divine Botanicals, which was founded by herbalist and natural healer Barbara Rogers, available for purchase.
In addition to the clean products and various hair offerings (beard-shaping, sun-kissed highlights, etc.), Revolve Hair has makeup and formal hair services for large events including wedding parties. The team takes pride in providing a truly personalized experience—and they’ll travel to you for onsite services if that is preferred. Cook travels quite a lot in the Hamptons off-season when she visits clients in Manhattan and Palm Beach, so you can catch her at either of those locations as well. Here, she shares a few healthful hair tips to follow year-round:
- “Start with scalp health. It’s important to have the right shampoo and conditioner for your hair and skin type. A great thing to keep in your shower is a shampoo brush. This helps distribute your shampoo and gently exfoliate the scalp, leaving you with a fresh, thoroughly clean feeling. Plus, it stimulates microcirculation for healthy hair growth. I also suggest trying Davines’ Solu Sea Salt Scrub Cleanser, as it removes build-up and pollution particles.”
- “I frequently get asked about ammonia-free hair color in relation to gray coverage. Many people think that because it’s natural, it’s not going to be as effective, but that’s a myth. Those grays will be 100 percent covered.”
- “Take risks, but also stay within what makes you who you are. It’s about being an individual.”
